When you Google “Chinese bags manufacturers” , the page 1 will likely be full of final results like this:

“Very Best Bag Manufacturer in China”;

“Chinese professional Bag Manufacturer”;

“Your Trustworthy Bag Manufacturer”

Yes,I have done it.

Certainly, everybody who is having a bag factory would like to have such titles on his factory’s website.

But personally, I see such an issue:

The majority of this content does nothing to help you make decisions – because you don’t see any useful details.

So, instead of writing an article filled with self-proclaimed phases, I’ll be showing you:

Where are the China’s bag manufacturing hubs;

I guess you would like it.

6 Famous Bag Manufacturing Cities

For Chinese suppliers, all major bag manufacturing hubs have four points in common, which are:

Low prices;

Convenient transportation;

Numerous of experienced workers;

Complete industry chain.

But that doesn’t mean you can choose whatever you would like.

As an example, there are some of the best handbag manufacturers near Guangzhou, but if you would like to buy some simple cosmetic bags from there, you will likely find their prices ridiculously high.

However when you visit Yiwu to buy high quality leather handbags, you will likely receive a affordable quotes. But if you disregard the inspection, you will get a surprise.

The truth is every single bag manufacturing hub in China has its very distinctive characteristics and products of expert knowledge.

Let’s look into more information about each city.

1. GuangZhou City

As one of the most critical harbour cities in China, Guangzhou has become a center of global trade as early as the 17th century.

Each year, the British East India Company sent a fleet to Guangzhou to purchase porcelain and tea, and Muslim merchants would sail here to trade spices.

Now, Guangzhou is known as a main manufacturing hub and the Capital of China’s Leather Goods.

When it comes to high-end handbags, it is the undisputed leader of the whole industry.

In 2017, the manufacturers near Guangzhou made over 1,000,000,000 leather bags (including artificial leather bags).

Since Guangzhou has the most experienced workers and the most innovative factories in China, a lot of world-wide luxury brands purchase their handbags from here.

But like a lot of coast places in China, Guangzhou has been plagued by increasing labor cost in recent years.

So, if you would like to purchase some basic manufacturing bags, Guangzhou is not a smart option now.

2. QuanZhou City

Being a well-known port, the history of Quanzhou is a lot longer than that of Guangzhou.

In the Middle Ages, it was once the largest port and the most international city in the Far East.

It’s difficult to imagine, this place had been to be full of Buddhist temples, Islamic mosques and Christian churches 800 years ago.

The great traveler Marco Polo was shocked by Quanzhou’s grand scale, and recognized it as one of the most prosperous and fantastic cities in the world.

Even so as being a harbour was gradually settled by the sediment, Quanzhou lost the position in trade and changed into a producing heart for bags, clothing and sports shoes.

Although it is also going through the issue of increasing labour expense, the price competitiveness of Quanzhou’s producing industry is much stronger than that of Guangzhou.

If you want to purchase sports bags, laptop bags or travel bags in China, Quanzhou is a good choice.

3. YiWu City

Everybody loves Yiwu.

As a result of the lack of arable land, this mountainous area was once the poorest place in China.

However recently people call it “Wall Street for Small Commodities”.

If you would like to buy a small quantity of cheap bags from wholesalers, it is the perfect area.

Yiwu International Trade City, the largest wholesale market for small commodities on the planet, is around 600 standard baseball area large.

You can find anything there, but take care not to go missing.

An other hand, the main problem of Yiwu is that most of the small commodities sold there are made in nearby hand workshops, so the quality is frequently unstable.

You may buy the exact same bags from the same wholesaler two times, and will find that their quality are totally different.

Moreover, the factories there are not good at producing complex items.

So don’t be confused by the low cost, keep alert.

4. BaiGou Town

In the past 2 decades, Baigou has been considered by the Chinese as “Yiwu in the north”.

Similar to Yiwu, there is also a thriving small commodity market. In terms of output, it is already the third largest hub of bag manufacturing industry in China.

But unlike Yiwu, the traders here are mainly involved in domestic trade rather than international trade.

Because of speedy increasing in labor costs in southern China, some top bag companies are developing new factories around Baigou these years.

But Baigou also has the problems similar with Yiwu:

Even though the salaries are only 2/3 of that in southern China, most of the workers here are not good at producing complex bags (the managers in my factory spend a lot of time training them);

The manufacturers here are relatively small, so it is hard for them to handle huge orders.

When the expert skills of the workers here can be continuously enhanced, Baigou may have stronger international competition in bag producing.

So when somebody hopes to purchase good quality leather bags, I would never recommend Baigou to him.

But if you want to receive a better price, try finding a supplier here.

5. PingHu City

As one of the pillar industries of Pinghu, the bag producing industry was once very prosperous there.

However,due to increasing cost,this industry is slowly being replaced by high-tech industries.

The salary of a Pinghu worker is about 60% higher than that of Baigou currently, so I personally are not optimistic about the prospects of Pinghu bag producing.

However it still has some important positive aspects:

Due to the long history of international trading, Pinghu’s factories are more trustworthy in general;

And if you would like to purchase some specific products such as suitcases, it is the best choice: most of the China’s largest luggage manufacturers are here.

6. CangNan County

Cangnan is the most special one when compared with other manufacturing hubs.

It is not so much a center of the bag manufacturing industry, but a center of the printing and package industry.

There are a lot of printing houses there, some of which have state-of-the-art printing equipment, and about 30% of China’s packages are printed there.

So if you would like to purchase bags that request high print quality, such as non-woven bags and canvas bags, I suggest you choose some factory in Cangnan.

Final thoughts

The bags producing industry is an old but highly erratic industry.

In the past decades, a lot of industry giants have declined or even disappeared overnight. So I will keep updating this article in the future. If you have any questions on bag manufacturing, just contact us.
